The Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC), celebrates its tenth conference in 2005 with a record number of leading overseas documentary commissioners, directors, buyers and filmmakers heading to Adelaide.
Based on the theme Common Ground New Horizons, the conference has a focus on getting more Australian documentary makers involved in international co-productions and digital technologies. Highlights from the AIDC 2005 program, which will be released in November include masterclasses, forums, pitching sessions and a public screening program provided by the concurrent sister event, the Adelaide Film Festival. Registrations for the conference are now open.
AIDC Director Heather Croall said "Cinema audiences across the country are embracing documentary films with a passion and the AIDC provides an opportunity to explore the breadth of this art form. A record number of documentary commissioners from overseas will be attending including those from the BBC, Documentary Channel, Sundance Channel, SC4, TV2, YLE, Channel 4, BBC Scotland, ARTE, Carlton, History Channel and more. The commissioners will participate in The Australian DOCUMart, the pitching forum aimed to raise finance for documentary film makers brave enough to pitch their ideas.
During the four-day event directors of award winning international documentaries will present masterclasses offering insights into their work practices and experiences. Included will be the provocative British filmmaker Nick Broomfield who directed Kurt and Courtney, Aileen Wuornos and Heidi Fleiss: Hollywood Madam, Nick Broomfield was a guest at the first AIDC held in South Australia in 1987. He returns to Adelaide for the 2005 event with his filmmaker son, Barney Broomfield.
