About AIDC | Overview

The Australian International Documentary Conference is a must-attend event for anyone working in factual film and television. Our program in 2005 offers fresh insights into the factual future with debate, discussion and many opportunities for deal making. Masterclasses and workshops will raise and explore the issues and challenges faced by documentary practitioners today. Increased market place and social events offer delegates networking opportunities over the four days.

The Australian International Documentary Conference was established in 1987. Each conference is hosted by a different region of Australia and it has grown to become a major event on the international documentary calendar for anyone working in factual film and television. Host cities have included Canberra (1991), Brisbane (1997), Adelaide (1987,1999, 2005), Byron Bay (2003), Sydney (1993), Melbourne (1995) and Perth (2001, 2004). The conference attracts over 600 national and international delegates. With the generous support of the South Australian Government, the 10th AIDC in 2005 will be held in Adelaide once again.

The market component of the conference includes the Australian DOCUmart (a day long pitching forum), Pitch and Punt with a development prize up to AUD$20,000, Rendezvous, and the hundreds of one-on-one informal pitches enabled by the AIDC. A broad spectrum of the industry attend the conference from film-makers, commissioners, industry suppliers, funding agencies, broadcasters, distributors, educational institutions and students.

Networks and agencies represented at past conferences include: Discovery, National Geographic, History Channel, CBC, Alliance Atlantis, AVRO, Arte, Carlton, American Film Institute, OPB, RM Associates London, BANFF Foundation, Beyond International, NHK, WNET, Vision TV, Channel 4, BBC, S4C, Mind's Eye, Granada Media, IDA, Natural History New Zealand (NHNZ), Turbulent Arts, the Sundance Documentary Fund, Australian Broadcasting Corporation, SBS, Prime Network, Network Ten, NSW Film and Television Office, Film Victoria, South Australian Film Corporation, Screenwest, Screen Tasmania, Pacific Film and Television Commission, Australian Film Finance Corporation, Film Australia and the Australian Film Commission.

It is expected to attract over 500 delegates and includes a range of international guests, independent filmmakers, buyers, distributors, co-financiers, academics and students.
